La Torre del Oro, directed by Christina Pluhar with her ensemble L’Arpeggiata, is a thematic album exploring musical exchanges between Spain and Central and South America from the 16th century to the present. Inspired by Seville’s historic landmark, the project traces cultural connections shaped by maritime routes to the Americas. It juxtaposes Renaissance and Baroque works by composers such as Alonso Mudarra, Lucas Ruiz de Ribayaz, and Santiago de Murcia with Latin American folk traditions and modern composers including Simón Díaz and Violeta Parra. Featuring a blend of early and folk instruments alongside improvisation, the album highlights enduring transatlantic musical dialogue and cultural hybridity.

Christina Pluhar (b. 1965, Graz) is an Austrian theorbist, harpist, and conductor, best known as the founder of the early music ensemble L'Arpeggiata. She developed her expertise in early music during her studies at the University of Graz and further specialized in lute, theorbo, and Baroque guitar at institutions including the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. After early success with Ensemble La Fenice, she established herself in Paris as a leading interpreter of Baroque repertoire. In 2000, she founded L’Arpeggiata, which has since become internationally recognized for its innovative and improvisation-driven approach to early music performance.
