Carl Maria von Weber is often associated with Der Freischütz (“Fastshooter”), but his output extends far beyond this opera, encompassing masses, cantatas, symphonies, piano works, and other operas. A pioneer of German national opera, his works include Euryanthe and Oberon. His comic one-act singspiel Abu Hassan, with a libretto by F. K. Hiemer, reflects elements of his own life and showcases refined humor. The opera features a masterful overture, comparable to those of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Gioachino Rossini, and demonstrates Weber’s light, colorful orchestration, influenced by Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio.
