Spanish Songs pays tribute to Federico García Lorca through two distinct solo guitar interpretations of his Canciones populares españolas. The first, arranged by Manuel Cano, presents a refined and traditional approach enriched with subtle flamenco elements. The second, by Ramón Cueto, offers a more modern reinterpretation, incorporating a renewed musical language while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original songs. Together, these versions highlight the adaptability and enduring expressive power of Lorca’s music across different stylistic perspectives.

Agustín Maruri is a Spanish guitarist known for his contributions as a performer and researcher of historical guitar repertoire. Born in Madrid, he has received recognition for his scholarly work, including studies in major European libraries, and was awarded by the Yuste European Academy in 1996. Maruri has premiered numerous works and built an extensive discography of over 25 recordings. His playing blends romanticism and modernism, reflecting both historical insight and contemporary creativity. A student of Ernesto Bitetti, he developed a distinctive sound shaped by technical precision and a strong personal artistic vision.
