Franz Schubert’s final year saw rising public recognition alongside declining health, curtailing any notion of him succeeding Ludwig van Beethoven as a musical heir. In 1828, he completed his last three piano sonatas, with the B-flat major Sonata—often celebrated for its “heavenly length”—emerging as a pinnacle of his piano output. This work unites Schubert’s lyrical expressiveness with monumental structure, exemplifying the qualities that define his enduring contribution to the piano repertoire.
Gustav Piekut, born in 1995 in Aalborg, Denmark, is an acclaimed classical pianist recognized for his expressive intensity and technical mastery. He trained under Peter Hagn-Meincke, Martin Lysholm Jepsen, Klaus Hellwig at the Berlin University of Arts, and Jens Elvekjær at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Supported by the Augustinus Foundation, he performs internationally and has won numerous awards, including the Artist Prize of the Danish Music Critics’ Association and the Léonie Sonning Talent Prize. He has appeared with the Copenhagen Philharmonic, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, and other major ensembles, performing works by Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Chopin, and Gershwin, and is featured at prominent European festivals.
