This double album brings together Emmanuelle Bertrand, Pascal Amoyel, and the Quatuor Parisii in an exploration of the late works of Franz Schubert. Centered on Arpeggione Sonata and the monumental String Quintet in C major, D.956, alongside selected songs arranged for cello and piano, the recording traces a deeply expressive musical journey. Balancing luminous beauty with a profound sense of fragility and fate, the program captures the emotional depth and introspective character of Schubert’s final creative period.
Emmanuelle Bertrand, born in 1973 in Firminy, is an acclaimed French cellist known for her expressive artistry, international career, and commitment to both contemporary and classical repertoire. Trained at the conservatories in Lyon and Paris, she gained early recognition through major awards, including the Victoire de la Musique and being named “artist of the year” by Diapason and France Musique listeners. Her career was profoundly influenced by Henri Dutilleux, who praised her as a “true revelation,” leading her to champion works by leading contemporary composers and premiere significant new compositions. She performs globally as a soloist with major orchestras and collaborates closely with pianist Pascal Amoyel in both musical and interdisciplinary projects. In addition, she is artistic director of the Beauvais Cello Festival and a professor at the Conservatoire de Paris.
