The debut album by the French-Swiss saxophone quartet XASAX for the Paraty label explores the rich and varied works of Leoš Janáček through inventive arrangements. Although Janáček did not compose for saxophone, the quartet adapts a wide range of his music—including Moravian choral works, folk songs, piano cycles such as On Overgrown Paths and Intimate Sketches, and organ music from the Glagolitic Mass. Through the warm, expressive timbre of the saxophone, the ensemble reimagines these pieces, highlighting their emotional depth and versatility while offering a fresh perspective on Janáček’s distinctive musical language.
