Alexandre Tharaud and Jean-Guihen Queyras celebrate three decades of collaboration with harmonia mundi. This anniversary double album showcases highlights from their repertoire, spanning Marin Marais, Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy, Alban Berg, and Franz Schubert, including their acclaimed Arpeggione interpretation. The collection also features newly recorded works such as Britten’s Sonata, Fauré’s Élégie, and Weill’s Youkali, celebrating a rare and enduring musical partnership.
Jean-Guihen Queyras, born in 1967 in Montreal, Canada, is a distinguished French cellist celebrated for his wide-ranging repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary music. He has taught at the Musikhochschule Freiburg since 2011 and serves as artistic co-director of the Rencontres Musicales de Haute-Provence. Queyras records for Harmonia Mundi, with acclaimed interpretations of Bach and Britten cello suites, Beethoven’s cello works, and numerous concertos. He has premiered compositions by composers such as Ivan Fedele, Bruno Mantovani, and Tristan Murail. Queyras performs with the Arcanto Quartet and plays a 1696 Gioffredo Cappa cello, using specialized bows for historical and contemporary repertoire.
Alexandre Tharaud, born 1968, is a distinguished French pianist known for his refined artistry and wide-ranging repertoire. With over 25 acclaimed solo albums, he has explored music from Baroque masters like Couperin and Bach to Romantic composers and 20th-century French works. A versatile artist, Tharaud collaborates with dancers, writers, filmmakers, and musicians beyond classical genres. He regularly performs with major orchestras worldwide and will mark Ravel’s 150th anniversary with appearances across Europe and the U.S., including his debut with the San Francisco Symphony. A frequent recitalist at top venues, Tharaud records exclusively for Erato. His discography includes Ravel’s complete piano works, Beethoven’s final sonatas, and crossover tributes such as his homage to singer-songwriter Barbara. He is also a published author and has been featured in film, including a role in Michael Haneke’s Amour.
