Philippe Tondre and Danae Dörken present Eastern Enchantment, an evocative album exploring Slavic and Hungarian repertoire. More than a recital, it offers a richly expressive musical journey shaped by passion, nostalgia, and folk influences, extending Tondre’s trilogy of national traditions. Tondre’s playing stands out for its lyrical freedom, luminous tone, and natural phrasing, while Dörken proves an equal partner, engaging in a dynamic and responsive dialogue. Their seamless collaboration brings clarity and emotional depth to the program, balancing intensity with elegance. The result is a refined and immersive recording where virtuosity serves expressive storytelling.

Philippe Tondre, born in 1989 in Mulhouse, France, is an internationally acclaimed oboist renowned for his virtuosic skill and expressive artistry. He studied with Yves Cautres and later with David Walter at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique. At 18, he became Principal Oboe of the SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart and has since held principal positions with leading ensembles, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and Gewandhaus Orchester Leipzig. Winner of the 2011 ARD International Music Competition and recipient of the Beethoven Ring, he has performed globally as a soloist and chamber musician, debuting at Carnegie Hall in 2022. He also directs the oboe R&D department at Buffet Crampon and plays on a “Légende” oboe.

Danae Dörken, a German-Greek pianist, is acclaimed for her technical mastery, expressive interpretations, and dynamic stage presence. Supported early by Sir Yehudi Menuhin, she studied under Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and Lars Vogt. She has performed with major orchestras and in prestigious venues across Europe, and regularly appears at top festivals. A dedicated chamber musician, she collaborates with renowned artists and her sister Kiveli. Her recordings, including East and West and Zwischen Nostalgie und Revolution, have earned critical acclaim and award nominations. In 2015, she co-founded the Molyvos International Music Festival, promoting classical music and German-Greek cultural ties amidst regional challenges.
