Pictures at an Exhibition: The Paintings of Bob Peak is a contemporary program conceived by producer Robert Townson, uniting ten internationally acclaimed composers in world-premiere works. Inspired by Mussorgsky’s original concept, the project features the Los Angeles Film Orchestra conducted by Leonard Slatkin. Each movement is based on artwork by American illustrator Bob Peak, renowned for iconic film posters such as West Side Story, Superman, Apocalypse Now, and Star Trek. The program blends music, visual art, and cinema, celebrating Peak’s legacy through diverse, newly composed musical interpretations.
Leonard Slatkin is an internationally acclaimed conductor recently appointed Music Director of the Nashville Symphony, beginning in the 2026/27 season. He holds multiple prestigious titles, including leadership roles with major orchestras in Detroit, Lyon, and St. Louis, and remains active worldwide as a guest conductor. A six-time Grammy Award winner, Slatkin has an extensive recording legacy and is also recognized as a composer and author. His numerous honors include the National Medal of Arts and France’s Legion of Honor. In addition to his performing career, he contributes significantly to music education and scholarship through his published writings.
