Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos (1779), originally performed with his sister Nannerl, is a refined yet relatively conservative work compared to the innovative Concerto No. 9, though more successful than the earlier three-piano concerto. Brilliant in character—particularly in its lively finale—it anticipates elements of the later Sinfonia Concertante without reaching its full grandeur. In contrast, the Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor (1786) stands among Mozart’s greatest achievements, distinguished by its dark, turbulent, and tragic character, which would later exert a notable influence on Beethoven’s own C minor concerto.

Elizabeth Sombart, born in Strasbourg in 1958, began piano studies at age seven and gave her first public performance at eleven. After winning national prizes in piano and chamber music, she continued her training internationally with major pedagogues including Bruno-Leonardo Gelber, Peter Feuchtwanger, Hilde Langer-Rühl, and Sergiu Celibidache, with whom she studied musical phenomenology for a decade. She has performed at leading venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Concertgebouw and appeared as soloist with major orchestras. Alongside her performance career, she is active in education and outreach, founding the Fondation Résonnance in 1988. Her work has been widely recorded and formally recognized by the French state.
