The album Mozart. Six Duets for Two Flutes highlights a curious historical artifact: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s so-called Opus 75, a work he never actually composed. Originating in the 19th century, when domestic music-making was popular, publishers often created arrangements of well-known composers’ works for amateur performance. In this case, anonymous editors adapted Mozart’s violin sonatas and piano trios into flute duets, presenting them as a new opus. Though later dismissed as inauthentic, the collection reflects genuine Mozartian style. This recording reexamines the pieces, emphasizing their musical value, craftsmanship, and suitability for flute performance despite their unconventional origins.

This recording brings together two distinguished musicians from Nizhny Novgorod. Andrey Malykh, a member of the local philharmonic symphony orchestra, is known for his commitment to rare and innovative repertoire, including recordings such as “Flute in Russian Music,” complete flute sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, and all flute quartets by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He also performs in the rock band Chronop. His colleague Elena Platitsyna is likewise an active orchestral performer and collaborator, participating in projects such as the Gorky Quintet and the Voice of the Flute International Festival, reflecting a broad and versatile artistic profile.
