The Kuss Quartet, joined by violist Muriel Razavi, begins a three-volume exploration of Mozart’s six String Quintets. The programme contrasts the early quintet of 1777, modelled on works by Michael Haydn, with the later G minor Quintet of 1786, notable for its dark, turbulent character and expansive structure, akin to other major works from the same period. To complement these pieces, the ensemble intersperses two short contemporary string quartet works, creating a dialogue between classical and modern styles while offering a varied and cohesive listening experience.
The Kuss Quartet is renowned for its concept-driven programming, combining tradition with innovation to engage diverse audiences. Led by Jana Kuss and Oliver Wille, who have performed together for over three decades, alongside William Coleman and Mikayel Hakhnazaryan, the ensemble explores both core repertoire and contemporary works. Supported by grants, they have commissioned numerous compositions, collaborating with leading venues such as Wigmore Hall and Concertgebouw. Their projects often cross artistic boundaries, including interdisciplinary performances and new formats developed during the pandemic. Award-winning early in their career, they remain influential performers and educators, fostering new generations through teaching and masterclasses.
