Avishai Darash’s The Planned Child is an intimate jazz-crossover album that places solo piano at the center of a deeply personal and reflective musical journey. Released in April 2026, the record combines carefully composed works with spontaneous improvisations, bringing together material written across more than fifteen years alongside newly created pieces. Through its minimal and exposed sound world—occasionally enriched by collaborations with Maya Fridman—the album highlights vulnerability, authenticity, and emotional depth. Returning to the piano as his most direct mode of expression, Darash crafts a stripped-back yet richly expressive narrative that explores identity, artistic growth, memory, and the passage of time.
Avishai Darash is an Amsterdam-based pianist, composer, arranger, and producer whose work bridges North African traditions, Western classical music, jazz, Israeli folk, and electronic influences. Beginning his musical journey in electronic music production under the mentorship of psychedelic trance producer Tribal Tul, Darash later discovered jazz and devoted himself to piano and composition. After studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, he built an international career through collaborations, orchestral projects, and genre-crossing productions. His work spans acclaimed albums, large-scale interdisciplinary performances, and leadership roles with ensembles such as the Marmoucha Orchestra and Amsterdam’s Andalusian Orchestra. Alongside developing innovative projects like “Lev Poema” with Roy Rosenfeld, Darash remains committed to mentoring emerging musicians and fostering creative artistic development.
