The Quatuor Avril, formed in 2024 by four young Belgian and Swiss musicians active in orchestral and chamber settings, is dedicated to promoting music by female composers. Their debut album features works by four women composers with contrasting styles, unified by an emphasis on emotional expression and artistic authenticity. On the initiative of cellist Alexandre Bughin, the quartet also collaborates with author and actor Philippe Cloes, who contributes texts connecting the lives and works of seven women composers. The project responds to ongoing gender imbalance in concert programming, highlighted by data from Elles Women Composers, and seeks to broaden visibility for overlooked repertoire through performance and storytelling.
