_____________________
This recording, made in June 1972 shortly after the establishment of Nimbus Records’ first purpose-built studio in Birmingham, documents early sessions featuring works by Mendelssohn and Brahms, repertoire that the pianist would later revisit in subsequent Nimbus projects. Despite being completed as a production master within a month of recording, the Poulenc performance was never released, remaining archived for over five decades for reasons that remain unclear. The release now offers a valuable historical document, highlighting the youthful virtuosity and interpretive assurance of one of the United Kingdom’s most respected pianists in the early stages of a distinguished career.
