Behzod Abduraimov presents a recital that showcases both technical brilliance and interpretative depth across a wide stylistic range of piano literature. The programme opens with variations by Carl Czerny, linking Beethoven’s pedagogical lineage to Romantic virtuosity through Czerny’s role as both pupil and teacher within that tradition. It continues with Liszt’s Après une lecture de Dante from the Années de pèlerinage, inspired by literary sources, followed by Debussy’s Suite bergamasque, which evokes poetic and theatrical imagery rooted in French Symbolism. The recital then turns to Igor Stravinsky’s piano transcription of Petrushka, originally a ballet depicting vibrant scenes from Saint Petersburg, before concluding with Brahms’s reflective Intermezzo from Op. 119, offering a restrained and introspective contrast to the programme’s earlier intensity.
Behzod Abduraimov is an Uzbek pianist born in 1990 in Tashkent, widely recognized for his exceptional technical command and musical depth. He began piano studies at age five and gained international attention after winning first prize at the 2009 London International Piano Competition with Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. He trained with Stanislav Ioudenitch and is Artist-in-Residence at the International Center for Music at Park University. Abduraimov has performed with leading orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, working with prominent conductors including Gustavo Dudamel and Semyon Bychkov. His acclaimed recordings and global recital career have established him as one of the leading pianists of his generation.
