Min Kwon’s America/Beautiful is a five-volume project featuring 76 newly commissioned piano works by American composers, each inspired by the hymn “America the Beautiful.” Conceived as both an artistic and cultural reflection, the collection presents a wide spectrum of musical voices that together portray the United States as a diverse and evolving national identity. Rather than offering a single narrative, the works explore contrasting perspectives that reflect and reimagine the American experience, unified by the principle of E pluribus unum. Through this ambitious undertaking, Kwon highlights themes of humanity, resilience, and possibility, creating a cohesive yet multifaceted musical portrait of contemporary America.
Min Kwon is a Korean-born American pianist with an extensive international career as a soloist, chamber musician, pedagogue, and arts advocate. She has performed in over 60 countries and across all 50 U.S. states, appearing with major orchestras including those in Philadelphia, Atlanta, New Jersey, and Fort Worth, as well as leading ensembles in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. A professor of piano at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts since 2002, she is also founder of the Center for Musical Excellence, dedicated to mentoring young artists worldwide. Her career includes acclaimed recitals at Carnegie Hall and collaborations with leading musicians and ensembles. Kwon is widely recognized for her recordings, festival leadership, and commitment to expanding cultural exchange through music.
