Orange Mountain Music releases a new double album of Philip Glass’s 1000 Airplanes on the Roof, with libretto by David Henry Hwang, performed by Third Angle New Music and featuring Ithica Tell. Originally premiered in 1988, the one-act melodrama examines memory and reality through a narrative of extraterrestrial encounters. This recording corrects the limitations of the 1989 release by restoring the full text and dramatic context. Disc 1 presents the complete staged work, while Disc 2 offers a purely musical version, providing both theatrical and instrumental perspectives on this rarely performed composition.
