Andreas Gräf’s album HOPE is a collaborative project featuring award-winning film composers from around the world, designed to evoke enduring human values such as courage, compassion, hope, and love. Structured around twelve compositions, the album draws inspiration from classical opera traditions, where instrumental solos—particularly the cello—often reflect a character’s inner emotional life. In this context, the cello serves as the symbolic “voice” of the hero, expressing introspection and emotional depth at pivotal moments. Frequently used in film scoring for its expressive range, the cello here becomes a central narrative element, representing quiet strength and optimism. The result is a concept album that bridges cinematic music and classical expression through a unifying emotional vision.

Andreas Gräf is a Basel-born cellist known for his artistic depth and stylistic versatility, performing internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. He is a permanent member of the Bern Symphony Orchestra and regularly participates in chamber projects such as Duo Graf–Grandy. As a soloist, he has appeared with orchestras including the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, Jena Philharmonic, and Swiss Chamber Orchestra, while also serving as guest or principal cellist with ensembles such as the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and 21st Century Orchestra. Trained by leading pedagogues including Janos Starker and Michael Sanderling, he earned his soloist diploma in 2007. Graf also contributes to film music recordings and soundtrack projects internationally.
