Michel Debost, longtime principal flutist of the Orchestre de Paris, was a leading representative of the French flute tradition alongside his close colleague Jean-Pierre Rampal. This newly remastered recording features Debost performing with his longtime musical partner Christian Ivaldi in a distinguished interpretation of chamber works by Carl Maria von Weber. The recording highlights Debost’s refined artistry, technical mastery, and expressive musicianship, while also showcasing the duo’s deep artistic rapport and thoughtful approach to Weber’s richly textured and lyrical compositions.

Michel Debost (1934–2026) was a celebrated French flutist and one of the foremost representatives of the French flute school. Born in Paris, he studied with renowned teachers Gaston Crunelle and Marcel Moyse and achieved international recognition after winning major competitions in Geneva, Prague, and Moscow. Debost served as principal flutist of the Orchestre de Paris from 1967 to 1989 and later succeeded Jean-Pierre Rampal as professor of flute at the Conservatoire de Paris. An acclaimed recording artist and teacher, he also taught at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the United States before his death in Paris in 2026 at age 92.
