Tonus Trio, one of Korea’s leading chamber ensembles, releases its second studio album featuring two piano trios by Felix Mendelssohn. Renowned for its refined ensemble balance and insightful musical interpretations, the trio explores works that beautifully unite the structural elegance of Classicism with the emotional intensity of Romanticism. Through expressive phrasing, technical precision, and cohesive artistry, the album highlights both Mendelssohn’s lyrical sophistication and the ensemble’s distinctive musical identity.

Tonus Trio consists of violinist Yang Go-woon, cellist Lee Kang-ho, and pianist Joo Hee-sung, all prominent professors at major Korean music institutions. Originating from the Tonus Quartet, which gained recognition through tours in the United States and performances in Seoul, the ensemble was reorganized as a trio in 2012 and has maintained exceptional artistic cohesion ever since. Celebrated for its sophisticated programming and refined ensemble playing, the group has presented major projects including complete performances of Brahms, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Schubert piano trios. Their debut album, Brahms Piano Trios (2018), received critical acclaim, and the ensemble was honored with the Byucksan Music Award for its significant artistic contributions to Korea’s classical music scene.
