Blue Griffin Recording presents Wide Grey Skies, an imaginative song collection from soprano Amalia Osuga and pianist Aimee Fincher inspired by the poetry of Edna St. Vincent Millay. Spanning nearly a century of musical styles, the album explores Millay’s vivid reflections on nature, identity, and womanhood through settings by composers ranging from Ivor Gurney to contemporary voices such as Joshua Burel, including eight world premieres. Originating from the performance project Millay: A Century of Songs, the recording highlights the enduring emotional resonance of Millay’s poetry while showcasing an impressive diversity of compositional approaches, culminating in Burel’s expressive Four Millay Songs.

Amalia Osuga is an American soprano, chamber musician, and educator acclaimed for her “thrilling coloratura” and emotionally authentic performances. A native New Yorker, she has appeared as soloist in major choral works by Johannes Brahms, George Frideric Handel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Gabriel Fauré, including performances at Lincoln Center. Particularly devoted to art song and contemporary music, she founded Her Art in Song, a project celebrating women’s voices in poetry and music. Osuga has collaborated extensively with contemporary composers, notably Joshua Burel, and remains active as both performer and teacher. She currently serves as Assistant Professor of Voice at The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Aimee Fincher is an American collaborative pianist and chamber musician known for her versatility across a wide stylistic range, from Baroque composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach to contemporary figures like John Cage, George Antheil, and John Adams. She has performed extensively as an orchestral and ensemble pianist, including with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, and has participated in numerous premieres of new works. Fincher has also collaborated on recordings and chamber projects, including Duo Odéon’s debut album Specter, featuring rare and unpublished repertoire. With advanced training culminating in a doctorate in collaborative piano from Arizona State University, she is recognized for her work as a performer, educator, and advocate for contemporary and chamber music.
