The fourth Supraphon album by 21-year-old virtuoso Daniel Matejča marks a compelling genre shift, focusing on the tango nuevo of Ástor Piazzolla. Moving from classical concertos to Argentine tango, the recording highlights Piazzolla's diverse influences, which span Parisian classical studies under Nadia Boulanger, jazz, and the music of J.S. Bach. Joined by accordionist Martin Šulc, Matejča delivers a performance defined by exceptional freedom and intense expressivity. Featuring core works like Suite del Ángel, Histoire du Tango, and Oblivion, this vibrant release brilliantly showcases a new generation of musicians bringing passion and flawless artistry to Piazzolla's immortal legacy.

Born in Liberec in 2005, Czech violinist Daniel Matejča began his training at age four under his mother, later studying with Ivan Štraus. A prolific competition winner, he secured first prizes at the Telemann, Virtuosos V4+, and Eurovision Young Musicians competitions. Matejča’s critically acclaimed 2023 Supraphon debut featuring Ysaÿe sonatas drew comparisons to Hilary Hahn and topped domestic charts.
