Acclaimed early keyboardist Erin Helyard and baritone David Greco have concluded an epic, seven-year recording project in collaboration with ABC Classics, Melbourne University, and The University of Sydney. Mirroring their critically acclaimed, ARIA-nominated recordings of Winterreise (2018) and Die schöne Müllerin (2019)—the latter of which contributed to Greco's doctoral research—this final installment highlights historical performance practice. Central to the project is the use of a fragile, historic replica of an 1820s Viennese Anton Graf fortepiano, an instrument identical to those played by Franz Schubert, ensuring a rare and authentic musical experience.
ARIA Award-nominated baritone David Greco is an internationally acclaimed singer and researcher celebrated for his mastery of Schubert, Bach, and 19th-century vocal technique. He performs regularly on major European and Australian stages, appearing with elite ensembles like the Sydney Symphony and Pinchgut Opera. His versatile repertoire spans celebrated interpretations of Britten's War Requiem, principal operatic roles for Opera Australia, and landmark historical recordings. Drawing from his doctoral research at the University of Melbourne, Greco’s ABC Classic Schubert recordings earned a 2020 ARIA nomination. His recent engagements include major works by Mahler and Monteverdi across leading Australasian orchestras.
Erin Helyard is an acclaimed conductor, musicologist, and virtuosic keyboardist specializing in the harpsichord and fortepiano. A Sydney Conservatorium and McGill University alumnus, his extensive scholarship includes a 2022 monograph published by Oxford University Studies in Enlightenment. As Artistic Director and co-founder of Pinchgut Opera and the Orchestra of the Antipodes, Helyard has earned international accolades and multiple Helpmann, ARIA, and AIR awards for excellence in musical direction. A frequent collaborator with major Australasian symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles, he was named Limelight’s Critics’ Choice Australian Artist of the Year in 2023.
