With Da unten im Tale, Leonard Becker, Theresa Pilsl, and Jonas Müller deliver an intimate and sonically distinctive debut featuring a curated selection from Johannes Brahms’s 49 Deutsche Volkslieder, WoO 33. Poised between artful simplicity and Romantic inwardness, Brahms's folk-song settings preserve the narrative candor of oral tradition while elevating them into the realm of Kunstlied. By replacing the traditional piano accompaniment with a guitar, this innovative arrangement for two voices and guitar shifts the songs closer to their vernacular roots. The resulting texture is highly transparent, offering a warmer timbre and a more immediate expressive gesture.
Soprano Theresa Pilsl is a multifaceted artist and medical doctor who uniquely combines a dual career in classical music and medicine. A graduate of Berlin’s top conservatories and a licensed physician currently working in anesthesiology at Charité Berlin, she is also completing a doctorate in voice physiology. As an acclaimed vocalist, Pilsl has won numerous prestigious awards, including the Emmerich Smola Prize. Her diverse performance profile spans contemporary opera, chamber music, and art song, with appearances at premier venues like the Musikverein Vienna and Pierre Boulez Saal. She regularly collaborates with world-renowned orchestras and is a frequent guest at major international music festivals.
German baritone Jonas Müller is an acclaimed opera and concert singer who completed his master’s degree in concert singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München in 2026. A former student of Christian Gerhaher, Müller transitioned to the soloist ensemble of Oper Frankfurt following his successful 2025 debut as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte. His versatile career includes principal roles recorded for Sony Classical and Oehms Classics, alongside performances with elite ensembles like the Gewandhausorchester. Awarded the prestigious 2025 Musikpreis der Deutschen Wirtschaft, his subsequent winners' tour spans major European festivals, including the Lucerne Festival.
