Soprano Giulia Semenzato and guitarist Jadran Duncumb collaborate on a passionate, poetic program that explores a diverse spectrum of human emotion. Spanning from the canonical works of Schubert and Rossini to the intimate, private songs of Mauro Giuliani, Fernando Sor, and Charles Doisy, the album functions as a deep, probing exploration rather than a standard recital. This performance captures the vibrant stylistic transition between the elegance of bel canto and the expressive dawn of the Romantic era, presenting the material through a nuanced, amorous interplay between the human voice and the classical guitar.
Giulia Semenzato is an internationally recognized soprano celebrated for her interpretations of Mozart and the Baroque repertoire. A graduate of the B. Marcello Conservatory and the Schola Cantorum in Basel, she has won several prestigious awards, including the Farinelli Prize and the Cesti Competition. Semenzato performs regularly at elite global venues, including Teatro alla Scala, the Royal Opera House, and the Salzburg Festival, collaborating with prominent conductors and stage directors. Her extensive career encompasses operatic roles, international concert tours, and an acclaimed solo discography. Additionally, she serves as a professor of historically informed singing at the MDW University in Vienna and holds a degree in law.
Jadran Duncumb is a leading baroque lute specialist and historical guitarist celebrated for his technical mastery and expressive depth. His solo recordings, Weiss & Hasse and J.S. Bach, received critical acclaim, with the latter winning a prestigious Diapason d’Or. Duncumb's versatile artistry extends to the Renaissance and Romantic repertoires, featuring collaborations with soprano Giulia Semenzato and ensembles like Accademia Strumentale Italiana. Since April 2023, he has served as the Artistic Director of Barokkanerne (Norwegian Baroque Ensemble), leading innovative projects that span early opera to genre-crossing folk collaborations.
