The ensemble Anonima Frottolisti, renowned for its expertise in medieval and Renaissance music, explores late 15th-century femininity in this production. The core work, La Cecilia, dramatizes a profoundly female narrative encompassing grief, resilience, societal expectations, and redemption. Structurally, the piece is anchored in ancient Western musical traditions. It draws lineage from early French monodic forms like Pernette and Jeannette, polyphonic settings by Guillaume Dufay and Josquin Desprez, and sacred adaptations found in the Trent Codex and Mambriano de Orto's masses. Ultimately, this production highlights the enduring, cross-cultural impact of these musical and literary traditions across Europe.
Established in 2008 in Assisi, Anonima Frottolisti comprises international musicians specializing in humanistic medieval and Renaissance repertoires. The ensemble regularly performs across major European early music festivals and boasts an extensive discography featuring labels like Tactus, Brilliant, and Ritmi. Beyond recording, the group manages the Musica dalla Torre Festival and leads educational initiatives with the Accademia d'Arti Antiche Resonars. Their widespread cultural impact includes an International Classical Music Awards nomination in 2020, various television and radio collaborations, and composing the soundtrack for Susanna Nicchiarelli’s film Chiara, which competed at the 79th Venice Biennale.
