This album highlights a collaborative performance by international flutist Maria Milutsina and acclaimed Japanese lutenist Yuichi Sasaki, reviving French Baroque music on historical replica instruments. Spanning from the late reign of Louis XIV to the Gallant style, the intimate compilation features the elegant interplay of traverso, lute, and theorbo. The carefully curated repertoire captures the era's relaxed musical ambiance through court dances, pastoral pieces, and mournful traditional works by masters such as Visée, Hotteterre, Boismortier, and Baron. Ultimately, the collection explores the delicate nuances of period ornamentation, capturing the authentic resonance of 18th-century chamber music.
Mariya Miliutsina, an accomplished Belarusian transverse flautist from Vitebsk, has established a distinguished international reputation within historical performance practice. A highly sought-after soloist and chamber musician, she frequently performs at prestigious European venues, such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and at prominent festivals, including the Utrecht Oude Muziek Festival. Her extensive career features numerous CD productions and regular collaborations with leading early music ensembles like Il Pomo d'Oro and the Cologne Academy. Under the direction of renowned conductors such as Maxim Emelyanychev and Peter Neumann, Miliutsina continues to be a driving force in the classical music landscape.
Japanese lutenist Yuichi Sasaki is a highly acclaimed soloist and continuo player specializing in 17th-century historical plucked instruments. After early classical guitar training, he moved to Germany in 2012, later earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with highest honors from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln under the mentorship of Konrad Junghänel and David Bergmüller. Supported by the Nomura Foundation and guided by masterclasses with luminaries like Hopkinson Smith, Sasaki maintains a diverse international career spanning Europe, Japan, and North Africa. Renowned for his interpretations of French Baroque lute and Italian theorbo repertoire, his artistry is captured on L’arte del Virtuoso Vol. 2.
