Spanning three centuries of repertoire, the thoughtfully curated program includes works by František Benda, Bohuslav Martinů, Philippe Gaubert, and Darius Milhaud, alongside Bye’s custom arrangement of Friedrich Kuhlau's Violin Sonata No. 1. The duo delivers a sophisticated interpretive approach, gracefully navigating styles from Benda’s Classical sonata to Martinů’s adventurous harmonies and Milhaud's Neoclassical structures. Born in 1942, Torkil Bye is an award-winning Norwegian flautist and professor emeritus at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Raised by a musical family, he began his professional orchestral career at age 16 and later served as principal flutist for the Bergen Philharmonic and the San Antonio Symphony. Bye spent decades with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, culminating in his tenure as principal flutist from 1985 to 2007. A Spellemannprisen laureate, his academic career includes a visiting professorship at the University of Texas at Austin. Bye has conducted global masterclasses, training prominent successors like Tom Ottar Andreassen.
