British composer Philip Moore (born 1943) served for 25 years as Organist and Master of the Music at York Minster, following earlier posts at Eton College, Canterbury Cathedral, and Guildford Cathedral. Upon his 2008 retirement, he was named Organist Emeritus and awarded the Order of St William by the Archbishop of York. Celebrated globally by church choirs for his expansive catalog of sacred music, Moore’s compositions are distinguished by expressive depth and masterful craftsmanship. This recording by the St Albans Cathedral Choir highlights his enduring relationship with the ensemble, featuring works written specifically for them alongside five premiere recordings.

Based in Hertfordshire, England, the St Albans Cathedral Choir comprises twelve adult lay clerks, twenty boy choristers aged 7 to 14, and the St Albans Cathedral Girls' Choir, established in 1996. Together, these ensembles maintain a rich musical tradition within the cathedral's daily worship and broader community. Directed by Director of Music William Fox, the choir's performances and services are regularly accompanied by Organ Scholar Conor McGlone alongside Assistant Director of Music Dewi Rees. Through their rigorous training, collaborative leadership, and dual choral foundations, the choir preserves a distinguished legacy in English sacred music.
