Joshua Batty’s debut solo release introduces an artist dedicated to expanding the flute’s expressive possibilities through fresh repertoire and innovative collaboration. At the album's core is the world-premiere recording of Sergei Prokofiev’s Flute Sonata, presented in a new arrangement for flute and string quartet by Australian composer Lee Bradshaw. Drawing inspiration from Prokofiev’s own adaptation of the piece into a violin sonata, this version reunites the instrument with string textures to uncover nuanced colors and perspectives. Serving as a landmark project, the release launches Batty's long-term artistic vision aimed at imaginative storytelling, repertoire creation, and engaging contemporary classical audiences.

Flautist Joshua Batty joined the Sydney Symphony Orchestra as Principal Flute in 2019 following a successful tenure with Ireland’s RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Formally trained at London’s Royal Academy of Music and the HEMGE in Switzerland, Batty has performed as guest principal with over thirty prominent international orchestras and appeared as a soloist on major global stages. Deeply committed to expanding the flute repertoire, he collaborates with top contemporary composers on new chamber works and concertos, while actively leading national educational initiatives and charity projects. Batty plays an Altus flute and is represented worldwide by Emblem Artists.
