Maria Ester Guzmán (b. 1967), acclaimed by composer Joaquín Rodrigo as “Segovia’s successor” and celebrated as the “Queen of the Guitar,” is renowned for her impeccable technique and refined musical expression. Her distinguished career began early, winning the Spanish National Television Competition at age 11, followed by top honors at the Andrés Segovia International Competition in 1986 and numerous other international awards. In 2012, she received the prestigious Andrés Segovia Prize. This recording reflects her artistic breadth: the first half presents seminal works of 20th-century Spanish repertoire, while the second explores contemporary compositions and film music, seamlessly blending tradition with a modern sensibility.
