Kim Tae-Hyung’s album Echoes in the Mists presents a poetic journey spanning a century of piano repertoire, mapping the evolution from early Romanticism to early modernism. The recording opens with Franz Liszt’s masterful transcriptions of Schubert’s Lieder, which balance lyrical intimacy with expanded pianistic color. At its core, Robert Schumann’s introspective Waldszenen cycle delivers a imaginative walk through contrasting emotional landscapes. The album shifts dramatically with Leoš Janáček’s 1912 suite V mlhách (In the Mists), a fragile, psychological work marked by speech-like rhythms and intense fatalism. Through this thoughtful juxtaposition, Kim illuminates how Romantic lyricism transformed into modern expression while preserving echoes of past traditions.

Pianist Kim Tae-Hyung first gained international prominence in 2004 by winning First Prize and the Beethoven Prize at the City of Porto International Piano Competition, later earning accolades at the Queen Elisabeth and Long-Thibaud competitions. Educated at the Korea National University of Arts, Munich's Hochschule für Musik und Theater, and the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Kim studied under distinguished mentors including Elisso Virsaladze and Helmut Deutsch. He has performed with premier global orchestras, collaborated with artists like Vadim Repin and Kyung Wha Chung, and released recordings on Sony Classical and Warner Music. Kim currently serves as a professor at Seoul's Kyung Hee University and performs with Trio Gaon.
