In her new album Homage to Heifetz, Spanish violinist María Dueñas honors Jascha Heifetz, one of the 20th century’s most influential violinists and a childhood artistic inspiration. Recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios with conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, the release places works closely tied to Heifetz's legacy at its core. The repertoire features Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Violin Concerto and Édouard Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole, complemented by evocative miniatures by Claude Debussy and Manuel Ponce. The album balances deep respect for historical tradition with Dueñas’s own distinctive, vibrant musical voice.

Born in Granada in 2002, Spanish violinist and composer María Dueñas rose to international prominence through victories at major competitions, including the 2021 Menuhin Competition. Trained in Dresden, Vienna, and Graz, she maintains a prolific career performing with top global orchestras and conductors. An exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist, her acclaimed discography includes her debut Beethoven and Beyond (2023), Paganini’s 24 Caprices (2025)—which earned a Gramophone Award—and Homage to Heifetz (2026) alongside Gustavo Dudamel. Also an active composer who writes her own concerto cadenzas, Dueñas performs on fine Guadagnini and Stradivarius instruments loaned by private foundations.
