French Baroque ensemble La Rêveuse explores the enigmatic legacy of Jean de Sainte-Colombe, a pivotal figure in 17th-century French music during the Golden Age of Louis XIV. The program contextualizes Sainte-Colombe's expressive works alongside compositions by contemporaries Nicolas Hotman, Louis Couperin, Guillaume-Gabriel Nivers, and Jean Rousseau. Together, these pieces evoke an authentic aesthetic soundscape of the era, illustrating a period when the art of the viol attained its pinnacle of emotional intensity, structural refinement, and intimate nobility. Through this historical lens, La Rêveuse illuminates the profound impact of Sainte-Colombe's music on French chamber and string traditions.

Founded by Benjamin Perrot and Florence Bolton, La Rêveuse is an acclaimed early-music ensemble dedicated to preserving and performing 17th- and 18th-century artistic heritage. The group maintains an active international presence, appearing across Europe, Asia, and North America, alongside prominent French venues such as the Théâtre de l’Athénée and La Folle Journée. Known for innovative outreach like their award-winning mobile concert hall, the Opérabus, the ensemble's recordings consistently earn top critical honors, including Gramophone Editor’s Choice and Classica's ‘Choc’ of the Year.
