Celebrated for his flowing elegance, score fidelity, and unpretentious temperament, Belgian-born French conductor André Cluytens (1905–1967) was a prominent figure of the mid-20th century. Beyond his mastery of French repertoire, his expansive artistry led him to become the first French conductor at Bayreuth and to record the Berlin Philharmonic's first complete Beethoven symphony cycle. Commemorating his legacy, a premiere Lucerne Festival live recording release features Cluytens conducting César Franck's Symphony in D minor and Aram Khachaturian's Violin Concerto alongside 23-year-old Igor Oistrakh. Part of the remastered "Historic Performances" series, this collection highlights Cluytens's enduring contribution to symphonic history.
