Mauro Giuliani (1781–1828) was an Italian guitar virtuoso and composer who helped popularize the guitar in early 19th-century Vienna. Renowned for his melodic charm and wit, Giuliani authored around 200 works, establishing foundational pieces for the classical guitar repertoire. A new recording highlights his artistic legacy, featuring his two guitar concertos alongside his Variations on "Deh! calma, oh ciel!" for guitar and string quartet. Performed by acclaimed guitarist Giulio Tampalini with the Orchestra da Camera “Ferruccio Busoni” under Massimo Belli, the collection showcases Giuliani’s mastery in elevating the guitar to a compelling soloist and refined chamber instrument.

Giulio Tampalini is a celebrated Italian classical guitarist known for his charismatic interpretations, virtuosic mastery, and expansive discography. A graduate with top honors from the Cuneo Conservatory, Tampalini has secured major international awards, including the Andrés Segovia Competition and two Chitarra d’Oro prizes for his recordings. His vast catalog features complete works by Tárrega, Llobet, Villa-Lobos, and Castelnuovo-Tedesco alongside major concerto and chamber repertoire. As an active international soloist, educator, and D’Addario artist, Tampalini teaches at the Bergamo Conservatory and the Accademia di Imola, regularly holding global masterclasses while earning high critical acclaim for his expressive, engaging concert performances.
