Grammy Award-winning violinist Jennifer Koh launches a new recording series with The American Concerto, Volume One on Cedille Records, featuring Vijay Iyer’s Trouble and the world premiere recording of Courtney Bryan’s Syzygy. Performed with the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble under Tim Weiss, the album stems from Koh’s ongoing initiative commissioning composers to reimagine the violin concerto to reflect contemporary American identity. Iyer’s Trouble addresses social struggle, racial violence, and anti-Asian prejudice, drawing inspiration from Congressman John Lewis and honoring hate-crime victim Vincent Chin. Complementing it, Bryan’s Syzygy celebrates influential women artists, blending celestial concepts with jazz, classical, and sacred influences into a vibrant, multi-movement work.

Born in Chicago and educated at Oberlin College and the Curtis Institute, violinist Jennifer Koh is an acclaimed soloist celebrated for her technical virtuosity, intense performances, and innovative programming. Since winning the International Tchaikovsky Competition, she has performed with major international orchestras and established a prolific catalog with Cedille Records. Dedicated to bridging traditional and contemporary repertoires, Koh has launched groundbreaking commissioning projects—such as Bach and Beyond, Bridge to Beethoven, and Two x Four—collaborating closely with leading modern composers while producing digital educational initiatives like her Off Stage On Record video series.
