Pianist Wilhem Latchoumia, renowned for integrating local traditions and contemporary creations into his repertoire, presents his album Cataluña, a musical journey bridging French and Spanish Catalonia. The recording weaves together works by Isaac Albéniz, Federico Mompou, and Déodat de Séverac, three composers united by their evocative use of color, harmony, and poetic landscapes. Inspired by geography and mobility, Latchoumia alternates between Séverac’s Pyrenean portraits and Mompou’s atmospheric scenes. By constantly crossing cultural and stylistic borders throughout the program, Latchoumia crafts a moving, fluid narrative that captures the shared soul, shifting atmospheres, and rich resonances of the region.

Born in Lyon in 1974, French pianist Wilhem Latchoumia has earned international acclaim for his mastery of both classical and contemporary repertoires. Trained at the Conservatoire de Lyon and advised by figures like Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen, he gained prominence after winning top honors at the 2006 Orléans International Piano Competition. Latchoumia performs across major global venues as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborator with leading contemporary ensembles and composers, including Pierre Boulez. His award-winning discography on labels like La Dolce Volta highlights his eclectic artistic vision, bridging electronics, choreographic projects, and nuanced interpretations of composers from Wagner to Manuel de Falla.
