SOMM Recordings presents Volume 2 of Telemann’s “Paris” Quartets, performed by period-instrument ensemble London Handel Players in celebration of their 25th anniversary. Following their acclaimed first volume, flautist Rachel Brown, violinist Adrian Butterfield, gambist Gavin Kibble, cellist Sarah McMahon, and harpsichordist Silas Wollston record the six Nouveaux Quatuors. Composed during Telemann’s triumphant 1737 Parisian visit, these six multi-movement suites display an inventive blend of instrumental textures and French elegance. Originally premiered by Europe's finest virtuosos alongside the composer himself, these masterworks garnered international renown—captivating historical figures from Charpentier to J.S. Bach—and are restored here with expressive, world-class artistry.

Celebrating twenty-five years since their 2000 debut at the London Handel Festival, the London Handel Players have established an international reputation for excellence in baroque chamber music and concertos. Led by Artistic Director Adrian Butterfield, the period-instrument ensemble performs regularly at world-renowned venues, including Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, and major European festivals, alongside their educational commitments at London conservatoires. Their acclaimed discography on the SOMM label features works by Handel, Bach, Leclair, and Telemann, highlighted by Telemann’s Quadri and the October 2026 release of his Nouveaux Quatuors. The ensemble continues to tour globally while celebrating key milestones in historical performance.
