Pianist Massimiliano Motterle explores Robert Schumann’s evolving approach to large-scale keyboard architecture on a new release from Da Vinci Classics, available digitally since October 16, 2026. The recording brings together Schumann’s complete piano sonatas alongside the early and revised iterations of the Sonata No. 2 in G minor, Op. 22, the fragmentary Sonata in F minor, Anh. F28, and the monumental Fantasie in C major, Op. 17. By combining canonical masterworks with alternative movements and unfinished drafts, Motterle offers a illuminating survey of the composer’s lifelong engagement with thematic structure, formal development, and Romantic expression.
