In Addio Amore, the Kammerorchester Basel, soprano Jeanine De Bique, and countertenor Terry Wey deliver a deeply moving exploration of love, separation, and loss in 18th-century opera. The recording focuses on the emotional gravitas of the farewell moment, transforming themes of abandonment and grief into expressive artistic consolation. Through intimate arias and duets by composers ranging from Albinoni to Hasse, the performers blend virtuous technique with profound emotional directness. Marking De Bique and Wey’s debut on the PENTATONE label alongside the acclaimed orchestra, the album presents a compelling showcase of tenderness and dramatic intensity within the Baroque vocal repertoire.
Founded in 1984 as Serenata Basel, the Kammerorchester Basel is Switzerland's most internationally acclaimed chamber orchestra. Operating without a principal conductor since 1999, the ensemble shapes its diverse repertoire under the guidance of its concertmasters, guest conductors like Principal Guest Conductor Giovanni Antonini, and world-renowned soloists. Continuing the historic legacy of Paul Sacher's Basler Kammerorchester, the ensemble navigates both early music—performed on period instruments—and modern works, commissioning new compositions annually. Celebrated for its versatility and artistic excellence, the orchestra regularly tours major global concert halls and performs at prestigious European music festivals.
