Under the leadership of Matthias Maute, Ensemble ArtChoral’s Art Choral, Vol. 10: Hallelujah delivers a sensitive exploration of the surprisingly recent yet expressive Jewish choral heritage. Prior to 18th-century emancipation, Jewish musical traditions relied primarily on monophonic singing and oral transmission; subsequent integration with Western classical structures created dynamic opportunities for cross-cultural transformation. The album captures this evolving narrative through a rich stylistic tapestry, transitioning seamlessly from early sacred polyphony to modern 20th-century American reinventions. Ultimately, this collection balances tradition and innovation, depicting Jewish sacred music as an ever-evolving, living culture where memory and creative renewal continuously intersect.

Rooted in Québec’s choral tradition for over four decades, Ensemble ArtChoral is an award-winning professional choir directed by two-time JUNO recipient Matthias Maute. Residing at the Maison symphonique, the ensemble performs extensively across Canada and internationally, notably through its acclaimed annual performance of Handel’s Messiah. Since 2020, ArtChoral has demonstrated significant social and artistic commitment by making thousands of professional singer hires, delivering 12,000 door-to-door health concerts to underserved communities, and co-founding initiatives to develop new operas by diverse creators. Currently, the ensemble is executing ART CHORAL, a historic digital library project spanning six centuries of a cappella music.
