Centering on the violin, Phantastico explores the 17th-century emergence of autonomous instrumental music through the innovative stylus phantasticus. Performed by violinist Stéphanie Pfister alongside Keiko Gomi, Marc Wolff, and Philippe Grisvard, the program highlights a historical shift away from functional dance and vocal accompaniment toward free artistic expression. Featuring works by composers such as Bertali, Pandolfi Mealli, Stradella, and Kapsberger, the repertoire showcases a period defined by virtuosity, imaginative variation, and rich stylistic exchanges between Italian and Germanic traditions.
Baroque violinist Stéphanie Pfister studied classical violin at the CNR in Strasbourg before earning a soloist diploma from the Schola Cantorum in Basel under Chiara Banchini. She maintains an active concert career as a soloist with premier early music ensembles, including La Fenice, Ensemble 415, and Le Concert d’Astrée, alongside an extensive discography across top classical labels. A dedicated educator, Pfister teaches baroque violin and chamber music at the Strasbourg Conservatory. In 2025, she founded the early music ensemble Armonico Tributo, and her 17th-century program Phantastico releases on Paraty in 2026. She performs on a 1750 Sebastian Klotz violin.
