In Vivantes, the Katok Ensemble, led by Paul Serri, collaborates with Belgian composer Patrick Leterme on a programme originally conceived at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Charleroi. The collection features works by Maurice Ravel and Guillaume Lekeu alongside Leterme’s new string quintet composition, Racines, Ailes, Brises. Inspired by the writings of George Sand, Romain Gary, and Vinciane Despret, the music explores an organic connection to nature and life. Leterme employs a meticulous composition style characterized by deliberate fragility, transforming subtle emotional sensitivity into a poignant form of artistic resistance across a deeply resonant chamber performance.

Founded in 2019 by Paul Serri, the Katok Ensemble is a variable-geometry string collective dedicated to democratizing chamber music and broadening audience engagement. Comprising distinguished violinists, violists, and cellists alongside associate creative artists, the ensemble offers flexible configurations ranging from duos to decets, with a specialized focus on string sextet repertoire. Balancing long-term artistic commitment with adaptability, Katok integrates individual musician identities into a cohesive collective vision. Beyond performing diverse chamber literature, the ensemble expands its reach through cross-disciplinary collaborations in theater and film, such as their theatrical performance Les saisons, and hosts the annual Katok Festival in Ardèche.
