Carpathian Tales is a deeply personal musical project by Lelie Cristea, inspired by her connection to Romania, her second home. Developed over two years, the album features original compositions and rare works that reflect the rich spirit of the Carpathians. Blending folk-inspired themes with emotional depth, the pieces range from tender ballads to lively, virtuosic dances. Cristea sought out music to stand alongside works by Enescu and Porumbescu, uncovering hidden gems that exceeded her expectations. Each piece tells a story, inviting listeners on a vivid journey through sound, tradition, and heartfelt expression.
Lelie Cristea, born into a family of accomplished musicians, began violin studies at age three with her father, Ion-Henry Cristea, a former concertmaster of the Vienna Chamber Opera. Her training continued with renowned teachers and masterclasses across Europe. She has performed widely as a soloist, including for German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and in prestigious venues such as the Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus Berlin. Deeply influenced by both classical and film music, Lelie merges these worlds in her concert program CINE. Her expressive playing and passion for storytelling through music reflect a rich family legacy spanning three generations.
