Antonio Caldara (1670–1736) was a Venetian Baroque composer who trained under Legrenzi and held prominent posts across Europe, including in Mantua, Barcelona, Rome, and ultimately as Kapellmeister at the Imperial Court in Vienna. His extensive output includes sacred music, operas, and instrumental works influenced by Corelli. Notably, his cello sonatas with basso continuo mark a stylistic shift from the late Baroque to the galant style. Structured in four movements with alternating tempos, these sonatas showcase lyrical melodies and virtuosic passages, reflecting Caldara’s mastery of the cello and highlighting its expressive and technical capabilities.

Francesco Galligioni is an accomplished cellist who studied at the C. Pollini Conservatoire in Padua and furthered his training with Franco Maggio Ormezowski in Rome and Parma. Specializing in baroque cello, he studied with W. Vestidello and G. Nasillo and worked with renowned artists such as Anner Bylsma, Cecilia Bartoli, and Sir John Eliot Gardiner. His passion for early music led him to earn a diploma in viola da gamba in Florence, with a thesis on the arpeggione and related instruments. A founding member of the Venice Baroque Orchestra, he has performed worldwide and recorded for major classical labels.
