The Viano Quartet’s latest album pays tribute to NASA’s Voyager Program, blending classical and contemporary works to explore themes of curiosity, connection, and cosmic wonder. Anchoring the release is Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 13, featuring the powerful Große Fuge and the poignant Cavatina—the latter famously included on the Voyager Golden Record. The program also features Alistair Coleman’s Moonshot, inspired by the Apollo 11 mission and artist On Kawara’s work. Closing the album are string quartet arrangements of Debussy’s Clair de Lune and Bart Howard’s Fly Me to the Moon, arranged by violinist Hao Zhou, adding lyrical, celestial charm to this imaginative journey.

The Viano Quartet, recipients of the 2025 Avery Fisher Career Grant, are among today’s most sought-after young string ensembles. They gained international acclaim after winning First Prize at the 13th Banff International String Quartet Competition and have since performed in major cities worldwide. Currently artists-in-residence with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Bowers Program (2024–2027), the quartet has earned top prizes at numerous international competitions. Mentored by members of the Dover, Guarneri, and Tokyo quartets, they credit their training at the Curtis Institute and Colburn Conservatory. Their name, “Viano,” symbolizes the unity of four string instruments acting as one. Their debut album Portraits features works by Schubert, Price, Tchaikovsky, and Ginastera.
