The Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, led by conductor Malin Broman, presents three distinctive works by women composers from Wales, Poland, and Austria. Grace Williams’ Sea Sketches, inspired by Glamorganshire’s coastline, vividly captures the sea’s movement and atmosphere. Grażyna Bacewicz’s Fourth String Quartet, arranged for string orchestra, blends folk influences with moments of ethereal beauty, reflecting her prominence in mid-20th-century Polish music. The program closes with Johanna Müller-Hermann’s string quartet, also arranged for string orchestra, a lush and powerful work in a post-romantic style reminiscent of Mahler, Strauss, and Zemlinsky. Together, these pieces showcase originality, cultural richness, and compelling artistry.
