Salt is a boundary-blurring album that unfolds as a sonic ritual, journeying through themes of loss, memory, resistance, and return. Cellist Maya Beiser collaborates with artists like Missy Mazzoli, Meredith Monk, and Helga Davis to create a deeply immersive soundscape. The album blends original compositions with reimagined works by Monteverdi, Purcell, and Gluck, merging Baroque hymns, sacred chants, and contemporary laments. Beiser’s cello becomes a resonant, elemental voice, evoking both ancient echoes and modern urgency. Salt balances beauty with sorrow, uniting past and present in a powerful expression of emotional and historical reckoning.
Cellist Maya Beiser, raised in Israel’s Galilee Mountains by Argentinean and French parents, grew up immersed in diverse religious and musical traditions.
